Full 2006-07 Liberty Women's Basketball Schedule Released
Liberty's 2006-07 women's basketball regular season schedule has been completed, as the 14-game Big South Conference slate was announced today.

Head coach Carey Green's Lady Flames will open conference play on January 13 at Coastal Carolina.  The first conference tilt at the Vines Center will be a January 22 matchup with Winthrop.

High Point, the lone Big South squad to defeat the Lady Flames during the 2005-06 season, hosts Liberty on January 20.  The Panthers will then make a return trip to Lynchburg on February 10.

Liberty will be busy during the month of February, playing eight Big South games in a 24-day span.  Fortunately for the Lady Flames, five of the team's 13 home contests fall during that stretch.

Before the team begins its quest for an 11th-consecutive Big South crown, the Lady Flames will have to deal with a challenging non-conference schedule.

Liberty fans anxious to see the 2006-07 team in action will be pleased to find out that the Lady Flames will open the season on November 11, the earliest start in program history.  Norfolk State will visit the Vines Center that evening in the lid-lifter.

After a November 14 tilt at George Mason, Liberty will return home to meet Columbia Union two nights later.  The Lady Pioneers are one of five new opponents appearing on the Lady Flames' ledger.

Liberty then embarks upon a challenging stretch of three road contests in 10 days, beginning November 20.  The team will make trips to Virginia, Binghamton and James Madison.  Those three squads went a combined 35-7 at home a season ago.  The game at Virginia will be one of the first contested at the Cavaliers' new John Paul Jones Arena.

December's schedule opens with a home showdown with Virginia Tech on the evening of the 5th.  The Hokies and Liberty's December 9 foe, George Washington, both made the second round of the NCAA Tournament a season ago.

Virginia Union visits Lynchburg on December 16 in the last contest before the Lady Flames travel south of the border.

On December 19-20, Liberty will make its first trip out of country since the 1999-2000 season, Green's first year at the helm.  The Lady Flames will be one of eight teams in action at the Caribbean Classic at the Moon Palace Resort in Cancun.  Liberty will meet Texas-Arlington on December 19 and Pittsburgh the following day.

After Christmas, Liberty will head back out on the road.  This time, the destination will be the Comcast Center on Maryland's campus for the December 29-30 Terrapin Classic.  Liberty will meet 2006 NCAA Division I Tournament participant Marist in one first-round game while the host Terrapins and UNC Greensboro will tangle in the other.  The two winners will square off for the tournament championship the following day.  If the Lady Flames match up with Maryland, it would be the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

Liberty will open the 2007 portion of its schedule with a pair of home tilts.  American of the Patriot League will visit the Vines Center on January 2 and Longwood arrives in town three days later.
