Zelinskas Named to NCAA Division I Women's Track and Field All-Academic Team
Liberty junior Arlene Zelinskas has been named to the 2006 NCAA Division I U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Women's All-Academic Track and Field Team.

A biology major, Zelinskas garnered this accolade by meeting the USTFCCCA's qualifying standards, which consisted of a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and a NCAA Division I regional or national-qualifying performance.

"Arlene is a first-class student and athlete," remarked Liberty head track and field coach Brant Tolsma.  "She is in one of the most difficult majors at Liberty.  It's an honor that is well deserved."

Zelinskas had previously been honored as the 2006 Big South Conference Outdoor Track and Field Scholar-Athlete of the Year.  She was included on the 2006 Big South Indoor and Outdoor Track and Field All-Academic Team rosters and carved her name on the Big South Presidential Honor Roll for the third time.

For the sixth-consecutive semester, Zelinskas, an honors student, made the Liberty University Dean's List.  She was additionally a 2006 VaSID All-State All-Academic Team honoree.

Zelinskas also enjoyed her most successful year on the track.  The highlight of her season came at the 2006 Big South Indoor Track and Field Championships.  At the event, she established meet records in the 60-meter hurdles (8.64) and the pentathlon (3,345 points).  Those performances made Zelinskas the 2006 Big South Indoor Track and Field Women's Outstanding Track Performer of the Year.
