LAX Ends 2010 Regular Season with Four Goals
A pair of sophomores accounted for the Lady Flames' scoring effort, as attacker Kristin Crowley (Colorado Springs, Colo.) and midfielder Sierra Clearwater (Mechanicsville, Md.) finished with two goals apiece. Davidson's Haley Cook was the game's leading scorer with four goals, followed by four Wildcats who finished with a hat trick – Keena Classen, Alanna Parker, Jen Crawford and Alex Defrancesch.
Liberty concludes its inaugural season with a 1-11 overall record and a 1-5 posting in conference play, while Davidson heads into the NLC Tournament with a 7-8 record on the year and a 5-1 conference mark.
The Wildcats pounced quickly in the matchup, as Davidson's Emily Rahill scored in the opening 20 seconds to give the host team an early 1-0 edge. Davidson continued to find the mark throughout the period, tacking on an additional 13 unanswered goals. Classen capped off the Wildcats' scoring streak with 5:40 remaining in the period, finishing a shot from the free position to put Davidson up, 14-0.
Crowley, Liberty's leading scorer, halted the Wildcats' flurry at 2:58, placing a shot past Davidson goalkeeper Michelle Pav to make it 14-1. Crowley's tally marked her 23rd goal on the season.
Following the marker, Davidson responded with a pair of goals before the close of the period, resulting in a score of 16-1 at halftime.
In the second period, the Lady Flames lit up the scoreboard first, as Clearwater finished a shot at 27:18 to pick up her eighth goal this season, making it 16-2. The Wildcats responded with three-straight tallies in the ensuing eight minutes to expand their margin to 19-2. Clearwater resurfaced at 16:03, capitalizing on an assist from Crowley to end Davidson's spurt and make it 19-3. Crowley's helper increased her assist total to four on the year.
After a Davidson tally made it 20-3, Crowley matched her teammate in goals scored on the afternoon, firing a shot past goalkeeper Jessica Melby with 9:52 remaining to round out Liberty's quartet of tallies. With her marker, the sophomore finished out the regular season with a total of 24 goals. Davidson added one more goal for the 21-4 final.
Liberty returns to action this Friday in the opening round of the NLC Tournament. The nine-game round robin tournament takes place at Longwood's Athletics Complex in Farmville, Va. Game times and official seedings will be announced following the final NLC regular-season matchup between Jacksonville and Presbyterian.
