McDougal Named Men's Track & Field Athlete of the Year

Liberty's Josh McDougal has been named the Big South Conference Men's Track & Field Athlete of the Year for the second straight year, becoming the first male track & field athlete to be given the honor twice.

Radford Tiffany Evans was named the Big South Conference Women's Track & Field Athlete of the Year. The male and female Track & Field Athlete of the Year is an annual award voted on by the Big South's Head Coaches at their annual June meeting.

McDougal, a sophomore from Peru, N.Y., increased his career All-America count to six during the 2005-06 season, earning the honor four times.  McDougal started the season off by winning the 2005 New Balance Big South Cross Country championship, and went on to take fourth in the NCAA Cross Country Championship.  During the indoor season, he took first in the Mile with a time of 4:03.04 and finished first in the 3,000 meter run with a time of 7:59.45, setting meet records in both events.  At the NCAA National Indoor Meet, McDougal took fifth-place in the 3,000 and fourth in the 5,000 to pick up his second and third All-America honors.  He wrapped up the year by taking the No. 1 spot in the 1,500-meters at the Big South Championship and finishing ninth overall in the country in the event at the NCAA Championship to round out his All-American count of the season.

McDougal becomes the first two-time winner in the six-year history of award after being named the conference's men's track and field athlete of the year after last season.
