WLAX Preview: Presbyterian
The Liberty women's lacrosse team (1-9, 1-3 NLC) returns to the field on Saturday, taking on fellow National Lacrosse Conference (NLC) competitor Presbyterian (2-11, 1-3 NLC). Liberty's conference clash marks the second of three-straight NLC contests to close out its regular season. The opening draw is slated for 1 p.m.
The Lady Flames are coming off a loss to Detroit this past Saturday, falling to the Titans, 19-5. Midfielder Anna Starling posted two goals in less than two minutes to lead the Lady Flames' offense. Attacker Kristin Crowley, midfielder Chloe McIntosh and attacker Amanda Hornick each chipped in a goal to round out Liberty's point total.
Heading into Saturday's matchup, Crowley is leading the Lady Flames' offense this season with 20 goals. The Colorado Springs, Colo., native has garnered success from the eight meter mark this season, netting 7-of-15 shots from the free position. Along with goals, the sophomore is also leading the Lady Flames in assists (3) and draw controls (22).
The Lady Flames currently own a shot-on-goal percentage of .785 (135-of-172) and a shot percentage of .360, finding the net on 62-of-172 shot attempts. Through nine contests this season, Liberty has garnered more offensive success in the second period, netting 33 of its 62 goals in the latter stanza. On the defensive end, senior Rebekah Luetters steps into the net for the Lady Flames this Saturday. The goalie currently has 90 saves on the season and leads the team in ground balls with 45.
Presbyterian enters its contest versus Liberty with a 1-5 record on its home turf, edging Bryant, 13-11, on March 9 for its lone win at Old Bailey Stadium. Like Liberty, Presbyterian also has a win over conference competitor Howard this season, besting the Bison, 19-11, on March 21.
The Blue Hose currently own a shot percentage of .390 (115-of-295) and a shot-on-goal percentage of .827 (244-of-295). Jenna Handshoe is pacing Presbyterian in goals with 28 on the season, while Brittni Dulaney is the Blue Hose's assist leader with 15 helpers. Goalie Erin McBurnette currently has 111 saves on the season and leads the team in groundballs on the year with 27.
