The Liberty women's lacrosse team (1-8, 1-2 NLC) returns to the field on Saturday, taking on fellow National Lacrosse Conference (NLC) competitor Detroit-Mercy (5-8, 2-2 NLC). The opening draw in the Motor City is set for 3 p.m.
Liberty enters its clash with the Titans following a 13-day break from on-field action. In their most recent contest on March 28, the Lady Flames traveled to New Rochelle, N.Y., falling to Iona, 20-5. Attacker Kristin Crowley netted four of Liberty's five goals in the contest, while fellow team captain Karen Yates also chipped in a marker.
Crowley is pacing the Lady Flames' offense this season with 19 goals, scoring a total of nine in Liberty's two most recent contests en route to being named NLC Player of the Week on March 30. The Colorado Springs, Colo., native has garnered success from the eight-meter mark this season, netting 7-of-15 shots from the free position. Along with goals, the sophomore is also leading the Lady Flames in assists (3) and draw controls (18).
The Lady Flames currently own a shot-on-goal percentage of .764 (123-of-159) and a shot percentage of .358, finding the net on 57-of-159 shot attempts. Through nine contests this season, Liberty has garnered more offensive success in the second period, netting 29 of its 57 goals in the latter stanza. On the defensive end, senior Rebekah Luetters steps into the net for the Lady Flames this Saturday. The goalie currently has 83 saves on the season and leads the team in ground balls with 42.
Detroit-Mercy is coming off a 20-5 win over conference competitor Howard last Saturday, snapping a three-game losing skid. The team currently holds a shot percentage of .457, finding the net on 158-of-346 shot attempts. The Titans have found success in reaching the offensive third this season, holding a clear percentage of .727 (168-of-231).
Pacing the Titans in scoring is Emily Boissonneault with 42 goals this season, followed by this week's NLC Player of the Week, Anna Eidem, who has 38. Rounding out Detroit's big three is Corina Mahorn with 28 goals.
