Frye Grabs Big South Weekly Honor
Frye posted a four-under par 212 to claim a share of sixth-place along with Michigan State's Jack Newman and UNC Wilmington's Ryan Sullivan, on the par-72, 6,900 yard River Landing Golf Course in Wallace, N.C.
After opening the event with a three-over par 75, Frye (So., Colleyville, Texas) found red numbers for his final two rounds of golf. He carded a two-under par 70 during the middle round and a five-under par 67 to close out the two-day, 54-hole event.
Frye's 67 during the final round was tied for the best 18-hole score of the event, as East Carolina's David Watkins also fired a five-under par to help the Pirate golfer capture individual medalist honors during the last 18 holes.
Frye finished the regular-season ending event for the Flames with a career-best, 54-hole total and his second under-par tournament score.
Earlier this year, the sophomore finished tied for 23rd with a one-under par 215 at the Renaissance Invitational on Nov. 1-2. Frye has now carded five total under-par rounds this season, with two coming during the recent event.
The Colleyville, Texas, native shaved over a half stroke of his season average (0.65) with the career finish, as Frye now ranks third on the team with a 74.4 stroke average.
Frye is the third Liberty golfer this year to take home a Big South weekly honor, joining two-time award winners Max McKay (Nov. 6 and March 18) and Robert Karlsson (Oct. 16 and Feb. 25).
Liberty is the most honored program in the league this year with five weekly award winners. Coastal Carolina and Charleston Southern follow behind the Flames with three weekly winners for each Palmetto-based program.
The ECU/UNCW River Landing Intercollegiate marked the closing event to Liberty's 2009-10 regular-season schedule. Frye and the rest of the Flames will return to the links on April 19 – 21, when they will battle for the 2010 Big South Men's Championship in Ninety-Six, S.C., at the Patriot Club.
