The Liberty men's tennis team won the doubles point, but the host Old Dominion Monarchs used its success in singles to hand the Flames a 5-2 setback, Sunday afternoon at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center.

The setback, the first of the year for the Flames, evens their record at 1-1. Old Dominion moves to 5-1 on the year.

Liberty opened the match with victories in the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles contests to take a 1-0 lead. The Flames freshmen combination of Siim Tuus and Tristan Stayt defeated Tobias Fanselow and Benjamin Chomette of Old Dominion, 8-6, in the No. 1 doubles spot. Giancarlo Lemmi and Chad Simpson put the doubles point in the Liberty column, dowing Albert Ochagavia and Alfredo Rodriguez, 8-4.

The host Monarchs took over in singles, winning five of the six matches contested. Newcomer Ben Wirth picked up the lone Flames victory in the No. 6 contest, coming back from a set down for a 2-6, 6-2, 10-6 win over Rodriguez.

Liberty visits Mary Washington for its next match, Feb.6. Match time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
