The Liberty men's tennis team has been tabbed to finish in fourth place in the Big South Conference standings this spring, as the league's annual preseason poll was released earlier this afternoon. The poll is voted on by the conference's head men's tennis coaches.

The Flames received one first place vote and 39 points overall in being selected fourth in the poll. Liberty returns several players from last year's team, including three seniors, Chad Simpson, Louis Steyn and Juan Reyes. The trio, along with sophomore Giancarlo Lemmi each posted 12 or more wins in singles last spring. Head Coach Chris Johnson's squad finished 2009 with a 13-10 overall record and 2-4 Big South record, advancing to the conference tournament's semifinals. The Flames' 13 victories are the second most in the program's history.

Defending Big South champion Radford was chosen first in the Big South Conference's annual preseason poll, edging out Coastal Carolina by one point for the top spot. The Highlanders received three first-place votes and 42 points. Coastal Carolina received 41 points and one first place vote in being chosen to finish second. Winthrop picked-up the final two first place votes and was tabbed third by the panel with 39 points.

The Flames kick off their 2010 schedule, Jan. 22, against Morgan State indoors at Old Dominion's Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center in Norfolk, Va. Match time is slated for 5 p.m. The season is scheduled to conclude at the Big South Conference Men's Tennis Championship, April 22-25 on the campus of Radford University in Radford, Va.
