Liberty women's tennis player Jordan Jenkins has become the first Lady Flame to be nationally ranked in singles, appearing in the latest rankings by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) yesterday.

Jenkins, who posted an 11-1 record this fall, is ranked 124th by the ITA. In the 10-year history of the program, no Liberty tennis player had ever been ranked by the ITA in singles. Along with the junior's outstanding ledger in the fall, the Sarasota, Fla., native won titles at the prestigious Billie Jean King National Tennis Center Women's Collegiate Invitational, the Old Dominion Collegiate Invitational and the James Madison Invitational.

Jenkins is a two-time VaSID All-State and Big South all-conference honoree in singles. Last spring, she recorded a 12-7 mark, playing in the No. 1 singles spot in the Lady Flames line-up. Her efforts helped Liberty to a 15-7 record, its best mark in the history of the program. In 2008, she was named the Big South Player and Freshman of the Year with a 16-1 spring mark.

The Liberty women's tennis team opens its 2010 spring season, Jan. 22, against Morgan State at the Folkes-Stevens Tennis Center in Norfolk, Va. Match time is scheduled for 9 a.m.
