Sam Chelanga, the 2009 USTFCCCA Division I Cross Country Southeast Regional Athlete of the Year, will compete in Monday's NCAA national meet in Terre Haute, Ind.

Liberty's Sam Chelanga, this year's NCAA Southeast Regional champion, was named the Division I Men's Cross Country Southeast Regional Athlete of the Year by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). The honor marks the second straight year Chelanga has received the title.

Chelanga, the 2008 NCAA Cross Country national runner-up, is gearing up for Monday's NCAA Cross Country Championship in Terre Haute, Ind. Joining him will be teammate Evans Kigen, who finished sixth overall at the regional meet.

Chelanga won the Southeast Regional in Louisville, Ky., on Nov. 14, finishing more than 33 seconds before the second-place finisher in the 10K event.

The redshirt junior from Nairobi, Kenya, has only lost one meet this season, coming in second at the NCAA Pre-Nationals on Oct. 17. Stanford's Chris Derrick, the West Regional Athlete of the Year, won that event.

Monday's national meet will begin at 12:08 p.m. and will be televised live on Versus. It will also be video streamed on NCAA.com.
