Flames Remain No. 9 in Region

Evans Kigen and the Flames are ranked ninth in the Southeast Region this week.

The Liberty men's cross country squad, which has been ranked as high as sixth this season, is listed ninth in the Southeast Region for the second consecutive week, according to the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

The Flames most recently won the Hagan Stone Park Classic on Oct. 3 with a perfect score of 15, taking the first six slots among collegiate athletes in the 8K event, held in Greensboro, N.C. 2008

NCAA National Cross Country runner-up Sam Chelanga made his season debut at that meet, finishing first overall with a time of 24:45.

The Flames are preceded in the Southeast region by No. 1 William & Mary, No. 2 Virginia, No. 3 N.C. State, No. 4 Duke, No. 5 Virginia Tech, No. 6 Louisville, No. 7 Richmond and No. 8 Kentucky.

The Flames and Lady Flames are back in action this Saturday, when both squads compete in the NCAA Pre-Nationals in Terre Haute, Ind. The meet is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
