The Liberty women's soccer team continues Big South play this weekend, taking on Winthrop tonight in Rock Hill, S.C. at 7 p.m. and moving on to Boiling Springs, N.C. on Sunday, facing Gardner-Webb at 2 p.m.

The Lady Flames (4-6-1, 1-0-1 Big South) are unbeaten in conference play in 2009, and are coming off a 3-0 shutout win over 2008 Big South regular season champion Coastal Carolina, Oct. 5, in Lynchburg. Liberty's conference opener against Charleston Southern on Oct. 3 ended in a 1-1 tie. The Lady Flames are also on a four-match unbeaten streak.

Liberty is led by Silvia Betancourt, who scored two goals in the victory over the Chanticleers. She is tied for second in the Big South with seven goals on the season. Maria Owen leads the team in shots with 38, while keeper Karen Blocker has recorded 66 saves for a 1.51 goals-against average.

Winthrop (3-6-1, 0-1-0 Big South) is coming off a 2-0 loss in its conference opener against Gardner-Webb on Oct. 3. The Eagles are led by Tricia Vensel with two goals on the year, while Rachel Webster and Jessica Hausfeld have each garnered one goal and one assist. Keeper Kelsy Weavil has played 861:26 in goal for Winthrop, making 50 saves for a 1.04 goals-against average.

The Lady Flames are 1-5-1 all-time against the Eagles. Last year's contest between the two squads ended in a 1-1 tie after two overtimes on Oct. 25, 2008 in Rock Hill, S.C.

Gardner-Webb (7-5-0, 1-0-0 Big South) is on a two-game winning streak after defeating Francis Marion, 2-0, on Sept. 30, followed by the conference win over Winthrop. The Bulldogs are led by Megan Reimer with seven goals, and Sarah Keyser with three goals and two assists. Goalkeeper Samantha Rupert has recorded 44 saves for a 1.24 goals-against average.

Gardner-Webb took the victory over the Lady Flames in 2008, 2-1, on Oct. 23 in Boiling Springs. The Lady Flames are 1-1-1 all-time against the Bulldogs.
