Silvia Betancourt scored two goals and Maria Owen scored another, as the Liberty Lady Flames picked up a 3-0 conference win over the Coastal Carolina Chanticleers, Monday afternoon, at Osborne Stadium.

With the win, Liberty runs its unbeaten streak to four consecutive games (3-0-1). In three of the four, the Lady Flames have shut out their opponents.

The Lady Flames dominated the first half of play, taking a commanding 3-0 lead. Owen broke away from the pack off the left side in the sixth minute, and sent a crossing pass to Betancourt, who poked it in the right corner of the net from just inside the six-yard box for a 1-0 advantage. The marker was the forward's sixth goal of the season.

Liberty struck again less than two minutes later. Betancourt ran onto a pass from behind the midfield line by defender Elia Lake, and beat Chanticleer keeper Amy Haggard for a 2-0 lead. Betancourt's tally was her seventh goal of the year and marks the second time this year, the forward has netted two goals in a game. She also scored two goals in a 4-0 Lady Flame victory over Francis Marion on Sept. 24th. In addition, Lake's assist was the first of her Liberty career.

The Chanitcleers struggled to generate any offense in the first half, and were only able to get four shots off during the opening 45 minutes. Two of those attempts were saved by Liberty goalkeeper Karen Blocker.

Owen extended the Lady Flames' lead to 3-0 at 42:56, scoring on a penalty kick after a handball was called on Coastal Carolina inside the penalty area.

The Chanticleers' offense came to life in the second half, outshooting the Lady Flames 9-1. Senior Dana Gentile came close in the 49th minute, firing a shot from close range that was stopped by Blocker.

Liberty's lone shot in the second half came from Owen, whose attempt was pushed over the the crossbar by Haggard in the 58th minute.

Anna Tupy made a last-ditch scoring effort for the Chanticleers in the 87th minute, but it sailed wide, and the Lady Flames walked away with the 3-0 victory, completing an unbeaten four-game homestand.

Coastal Carolina (2-10-1, 0-2-0 Big South) outshot Liberty (4-6-1, 1-0-1 Big South), 13-6. Liberty held the edge in corner kicks, 3-2.

Blocker made four saves in goal for the Lady Flames, recording her third shutout of the season. The sophomore keeper has only allowed one goal in her last four games. Haggard recorded three saves for the Chanticleers.

The Lady Flames continue Big South play this weekend, traveling to Rock Hill, S.C., Friday night, to take on Winthrop. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
