Following rounds of 76 and 77, Liberty's Robert Karlsson finished the first day of competition in a tie for 57th place at the VCU Shootout, which is being contested at the Hermitage Country Club.

Five holes into his first round, Karlsson birdied the par-4, 362-yard No. 3 hole, lowering the Kalmar, Sweden, native into red figures. However, bogeys on three out of the next five holes cost the sophomore three strokes, dropping him back to two-over par.

A double bogey on No. 14, his third-to-last hole of the round, followed by a bogey five on the par-4, 373-yard yard No. 15, caused Karlsson to end his opening round in a tie for 48th place, as he shot a 76 on the par-72 course.

Following a break from the morning flight, Karlsson got off to a rough start on his second round of the day, double bogeying his first hole, the par-5, 562-yard No. 17. Two additional bogeys, plus a second double bogey on No. 13, gave Liberty's lone golfer in the event a second-round, five-over-par 77.

Karlsson is one of seven golfers who finished the first day of completion on the 6,955-yard course at nine-over par 153.

Only 14 of the field's 84 total golfers finished their second round with an aggregate under-par score, with Brendan Gieldow leading the way. The Wake Forest golfer shot rounds of 70 and 67, to finish the day at seven-under par 137.

UNC Greensboro's Robert Hoadley is in second place at five-under par 139 (70-69), followed by Charlotte's Corey Nagy, who is in third place at four-under par 140 (69-71).

Karlsson and the remainder of the field will return to the Hermitage Country Club, tomorrow morning, to complete the last round of the VCU Shootout with a final 18 holes of golf.
