Liberty's Evans Kigen was named the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week, the league announced today.

Kigen, a native of Eldoret, Kenya, finished second overall at the Big South Preview, clocking a time of 25:38 in the 8K event. His time led the Flames to a second-place team finish.

Kigen, a redshirt junior, was the first collegiate finisher at last weekend's event, marking Liberty's 21st consecutive individual invitational meet having the top collegiate finisher, dating back to the beginning of the 2004 cross country season. The race also marked Kigen's debut in a Liberty uniform.

After the finish, Kigen remains unbeaten in collegiate invitational cross country meets, including his time at New York Institute of Technology.

The Flames and Lady Flames are back in action Oct. 3, competing in the Hagan Stone Park Classic in Greensboro, N.C. The meet is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m.
