Lady Flames Head West for the Weekend
The Liberty women's soccer team will travel to Indiana and Illinois this weekend, continuing the 2009 campaign with matchups against Valparaiso and Northern Illinois.
Liberty (1-4) is led by freshman Madison Short, who has recorded two goals this year, and junior Maria Owen, who has tallied 16 shots. Goalkeeper Karen Blocker has made 39 saves for a 2.60 goals-against average.
The Lady Flames will make their first stop in Valparaiso, Ind., to take on the Crusaders of Valparaiso, Friday evening at 5 p.m. EST.
Valparaiso currently sits at 2-5 on the year, posting wins over IUPUI and Ball State, and falling most recently to No. 14 Purdue and Central Michigan.
The Crusaders are led by Jackie Kondratko with one goal and three assists, and Luisa Desario, who has tallied two goals. Keeper Mele Cabral has recorded 34 saves for a 1.27 goals-against average.
Friday's matchup marks the first-ever meeting between the Lady Flames and the Crusaders.
After a travel day on Saturday, Liberty will take on Northern Illinois, Sunday afternoon, at 2 p.m. EST.
The Huskies (2-4) defeated Valparaiso on Aug. 28, 1-0. The team's other victory came on Sept. 11 at SIU Edwardsville.
Northern Illinois is led by Lisa Maier, who has tallied seven shots on the year, and Kim Schmitt with one goal scored. Keeper Lindsey Curnock has recorded 25 saves and two shutouts with a 0.82 goals-against average.
Sunday's matchup against the Huskies will be another first-time meeting for the Lady Flames.
