Liberty men's tennis players Chad Simpson, Louis Steyn, Giancarlo Lemmi and Siim Tuus were part of a strong field at the 2009 UVA Classic this past weekend.

The classic's field featured several nationally-ranked players and top teams from around the nation.

Simpson finished as the runner-up in the Flight E bracket. The senior came back from a set down in his first match of the tournament to defeat Taylor Boney of Nebraska, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3. Simpson followed the three-set victory with a straight-set decision over Eastern Kentucky's Carles Pons Escanilla, 6-4, 6-4. In the bracket's final, Simpson's run came to an end, as the senior fell 6-3, 7-5 to Binghamton's Alexandre Haggai.

Simpson also paired with another Liberty senior , Steyn, to finish third in the Flight C Doubles bracket. The combination began the tournament by advancing with a tight 9-8 decision over Jared Robinson and Greg Vladimirsky of James Madison. After falling to Haggai and Rueben Devos, 8-2, Simpson and Steyn took the third-place match, 8-2 from fellow Big South duo, Paul Boslet and Brett Cromwell of Radford.
