Lady Flames to Host Monarchs in Home Opener

The Liberty women's soccer team will host Old Dominion in tonight's 2009 home opener at Osborne Stadium. Match time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Liberty (1-2) is led by sophomore Silvia Betancourt and freshman Madison Short, who have both scored a goal on the year. Junior Maria Owen leads the Lady Flames with eight shots this season. Keeper Karen Blocker has made 23 saves in goal for Liberty.
The Monarchs (2-3) are led by Ashley Coutu, who has scored two goals, recorded two assists and taken seven shots on the year. Goalkeeper Bri Alvarado has tallied 10 saves and a 0.86 goals-against average.
Tonight's matchup marks the fifth all-time meeting between the two squads.
The Lady Flames are 4-12-3 all-time in home-openers, with the last victory taking place on Sept. 16, 2006 with a 7-0 win over Charleston Southern. Liberty is 0-4 all-time against Old Dominion, and two of those losses have come in home openers (2005 and 2007). The Lady Flames last met the Monarchs in Norfolk, Va., on Sept. 5, 2008, when Old Dominion walked away with a 4-0 victory.
