The Lady Flames soccer team will open its 2009 season tonight in Charlottesville, Va., when they take on the No. 14 Cavaliers of Virginia. The game is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Klockner Stadium.

The Lady Flames are led by returners Silvia Betancourt, a 2008 All-Big South second team honoree who scored four goals last year, and Maria Owen, who saw action in 16 games, netting three goals and tallying three assists.
Liberty (0-0) has been on the short end of all eight meetings with the Cavaliers since the two teams met for the first time in 2001. The Lady Flames fell in last year's contest, 5-0, in Charlottesville.

Virginia (0-1) returns 15 letterwinners from last year's squad, and was defeated by No. 6 Penn State in its season opener, 1-0, last week. The Cavaliers finished third in the ACC in 2008 and posted an overall record of 15-5-3.
