Liberty Men's Tennis Unveils 2009-10 Schedule
Matches against Commonwealth programs Virginia and William and Mary this spring will be included among the strong nonconference schedule the Liberty Men's Tennis team will face this year, as their 2009-10 schedule was announced by head coach Chris Johnson.
Besides the matches with the perennial national men's tennis powers, the Flames will once again square off against seven teams from the Big South Conference, culminating in the 2010 Big South Championship, April 22-24 in Radford, Va.
The 2010 spring season has Liberty scheduled to play eight home matches, with seven set for the new Liberty University Tennis Courts.
"The strength of our schedule this year represents how much our team has improved in the last two years," stated Johnson. "With the new players we have added this fall joining a squad from which no one graduated last year, we will bring the deepest pool of talent ever seen by Liberty Men's Tennis.
"Our goal this year is simple and clear - win the Big South title and earn a top 75 national ranking. With the talent we have and the schedule we will play, anything short of that would be a disappointment."
Along with four returning members of last year's 13-win team, which marked the second-most victories in Liberty men's tennis history, the Flames will welcome three new members to this year's squad. The Liberty newcomers include freshmen Siim Tuurs (Rakvere, Estonia) and Tristan Stayt (Plymouth, New Zealand) and junior transfer Benjamin Wirth (Virginia Beach, Va.).
The Flames open their fall tournament schedule Sept. 11-13 at the Virginia Fall Tournament in Charlottesville, Va.
