McDougal Brothers Finish First And Second To Highlight Flames At Penn Relays
Liberty's Josh and Jordan McDougal finished first and second in the 5,000 meters at the Penn Relays, highlighting Liberty's individual performances at the prestigious regional championship.
Josh McDougal took the title in 5,000 meter race as the sophomore posted a time of 13:55.59, while his younger brother Jordan McDougal finished just behind him in second with a time of 14:03.63. Both marks automatically qualify the runners for the NCAA Outdoor National Championships in the event in June.
The McDougal pair bested Princeton's Frank McCreery, who finished third with a time of 14:04.70, while La Salle's Sean Quigley (14:06.61) and Michigan's Lex Williams (14:07.18) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
The men's sprint relay team of Javan Carter, Markus Greenleaf, Phil Leinweber and Oronde Vassell placed sixth in their heat and 21st overall with a time of 3:29.73 in the race, while the distance relay squad of Leinweber, Christian Nichols and the McDougal brothers finished eighth overall with a time of 9:54.06.
On the women's side of the event, Arlene Zelinskas finished second in her heat and 35th overall in the 400 meter hurdles (1:02.07), Kena Butts finished eighth in the high jump (1.68m/5' 06.0") and Charlene Hibbert finished seventh in the Eastern Division of the long jump (5.69m).
The distance medley team of Charlene Hibbert, Rebekah Rickseker, Sarah Roberts and Jamie Watson finished seventh with a time of 11:46.00. The women's 4x100 relays squad of Andrea Beckles, Butts, Hibbert and Stephanie Walker finished fourth in their heat with a time of 47.72, while the 4x800 meters team of Rickseker, Roberts, Chelsea Swanson and Watson finished ninth in their heat and 12th overall with a time of 9:07.71.
The Flames will host the Liberty Twilight Qualifier on Thursday at 3 p.m. at the Matthes-Hopkins Track Complex in their final tune-up before the IC4A/ECAC Championships which will be held on May 11-14.
