Liberty freshman Robert Karlsson (82-76-73—231) tied for 45th place, participating as an individual at the NCAA Northeast Regional, at the par-71, 7,022-yard Galloway National Golf Club, located in Galloway, N.J., on Saturday.

Karlsson finished 19 strokes behind the medalist, Hunter Hamrick (74-71-67—212) of Alabama, who entered the day tied for fifth. Hamrick ended up one stroke ahead of Tennessee's David Holmes (73-73-67—213) and five strokes ahead of both teammate Bud Cauley (79-67-71—217) and Kent State's John Hahn (75-67-75—217), who tied for third place. Big South Golfer of the Year Zack Byrd (76-79-74—229) of Coastal Carolina finished the event tied for 38th place, 17 strokes behind the leader.

Alabama (303-285-286—874) overcame a five-shot lead by Tennessee (296-287-295—878) to win the regional. The Volunteers placed second, four strokes back. Illinois (298-291-300—889) took third place, while Virginia (298-291-300—889) rounds out the top teams in fourth place. Big South champion Coastal Carolina (319-303-293—915) took 11th place, 41 strokes behind the Tide.

Karlsson's NCAA appearance concludes the 2009 men's golf season for Liberty.
