Celi Announces Signings to 2009-2010 Squad

Liberty Women's Soccer Coach Jess Celi has announced the signing of seven athletes to the 2009-10 squad.

Liberty Head Women's Soccer Coach Jess Celi has announced the signing of seven athletes to NLIs for the 2009-2010 academic year. The 2009 recruiting class includes Heather Bentley, Kaitlin deShetler, Kelly Henion, Emily Hoy, Crystal Miller, Madison Short and Lauren Stell.

About the recruiting class, Celi commented, "Each incoming student has a unique personality, both on and off the soccer field. They will add tremendous talent, faith and commitment to the program, and we are honored to have them at Liberty. I'm looking forward to uniting our team in August."

Heather Bentley (Jessup, Md.)
Heather Bentley will come to Liberty from Anne Arundel Community College in Arnold, Md. As a home-educated student in high school, she was the team captain for the CHEN Bravehearts varsity soccer team from 2005-2008, and was named the Most Outstanding Player at the Maryland Christian School Tournament in 2007.

As a center back for the Laurel Wildcats club team, she helped her squad become the Maryland State Cup Champion in 2007, as well as a Region 1 semi-finalist.

Bentley was a member of the Olympic Development Maryland State team from 2004-2007.

The daughter of Chris and Holly Bentley intends to major in exercise science at Liberty.

Kaitlin deShetler (Corpus Christi, Texas)

Kaitlin deShetler will come to Liberty from The Woodlands High School, where she helped lead her soccer team to a district championship and advance to the regional semi-finals in 2008, en route to becoming a part of the Elite Eight in the state. As a junior, she scored six goals and recorded eight assists.

DeShetler also competed in club soccer as a member of the Texas Rush U18 Nike team as a forward, leading the team to a 2008 Houston Labor Day Cup title.

Academically, she lettered as a freshman, junior and senior, and was named to the Academic All-District team as a junior.

The daughter of Karen and Larry deShelter plans to major in nursing at Liberty.

Kelly Henion (Charlotte, N.C.)
Kelly Henion is a senior at Weddington High School in Matthews, N.C. As a center back for the Mecklenburg-Union Futbol Club, she was a member of the North Carolina Youth Soccer Association State Club Finalist squad.

The national merit scholar is the daughter of Jill and Frank Owings and Charles Henion.

She plans to major in exercise science and pre-med at Liberty.

Emily Hoy (Plant City, Fla.)
Emily Hoy will come to Liberty from Plant City High School in Plant City, Fla., named first-team all-conference, and also honored with her team's Most Valuable Player and Captain's awards.

She also competed for the Real Salt Lake – Tampa club team, as a right back, right midfield and forward.

Hoy has maintained a 4.7 GPA, and is a member of the National Honor Society. She is also an honor graduate.

The daughter of Greg and Debbie Hoy plans to major in accounting and international business, with a minor in criminal justice.

Crystal Miller (Waxhaw, N.C.)
Crystal Miller is a senior at Covenant Day School in Matthews, N.C., where she has been a member of a state championship soccer team in 2005, 2006 and 2007. She was an all-conference selection all four years, and an all-state honoree as a sophomore, junior and senior.

The Charlotte Soccer Club member played forward and midfield for the club.

She has been named to the A and B Honor Roll at Covenant Day School for the past two years.

The intended business major is the daughter of Craig and Sharon Miller.

Madison Short (Dallas, Texas)
Madison Short will come to Liberty from Lake Highlands High School in Dallas, Texas, where she has played soccer for four years.

Short is a four-year first-team all-district honoree, and was also named the Freshman Newcomer of the Year during her rookie campaign at Lake Highlands. She was a junior and senior captain for the Lady Wildcats.

She competed for the Solar Soccer Club team as a center midfielder, and has been the team captain for the squad for six years.

Short is an honor graduate as well as a member of the National Honor Society.

Short, the daughter of Mike and Jennifer Short, intends to major in nursing at Liberty.

Lauren Stell (Exton, Pa.)
Lauren Stell is a senior at Downingtown East High School in Exton, Pa.

She plays center defender for the FC DELCO club team, which was the EPYSA State Cup champion, USYS Region 1 champion, Las Vegas Showcase champion, and the winner of the US Club Soccer Champion's Cup.

She was also a member of Downingtown East's indoor track team, and her 4X800 relay team was ranked sixth in the state of Pennsylvania and 13th nationally.

Stell is a member of the National Honor Society and President of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

Stell, who plans to major in communications at Liberty, is the daughter of Jeff and Gail Stell.
