Coastal Carolina (583) holds a substantial lead over Gardner-Webb (607) through the second round at the Big South Conference Men's Golf Championship, hosted by Coastal Carolina, at the par-72, 7,079-yard The Patriot Club, located in Ninety-Six, S.C. Liberty (612) registered the second-lowest team round (294) of the day to catapult the Flames from last place into third place, five strokes behind the second-place Bulldogs after play concluded on Tuesday.

Preston Dembowiak (76-73--149) continues to play his hot hand for the Flames, sitting in seventh place, five strokes over par and seven strokes off the individual lead. Nathan Schenz-Davis (81-73--154) is tied for 18th and 10 shots over par. Big South Freshman of the Year Robert Karlsson (80-75--155) is tied for 20th at 11 over par, while Jay Calvo (83-73--156) is 12 over par. Big South all-conference selection Tobias Pettersson (81-79--160) rounds out the Flames' squad at 16 over par.

Big South Golfer of the Year Zack Byrd (75-67—142) of Coastal Carolina shot a round low 67 to take over the individual lead at two under par. Byrd's 67 is the only sub-70 round of the entire championship thus far. Teammate David Dannelly (73-73—146) and High Point's D.J. Dougherty (74-72—146) are tied for second place, four strokes behind the leader. Coastal Carolina's Tripp McAllister (74-73—147) rounds out the top players in fourth place, five strokes behind the leader.

Following the top three teams is Presbyterian (615), who is not eligible for the tournament championship due to its current transition to Division I. Winthrop (616) rounds out the top five squads, nine strokes away from second place.

The Big South Conference Championship, hosted by Coastal Carolina, will conclude with the third and final round on Wednesday, at The Patriot Club. Liberty golfers will start teeing off at 8:45 a.m., going in nine-minute increments.
