Schenz-Davis Wins Golfer of the Week Honors
Schenz-Davis (San Diego, Calif.) tied for 14th place out of 74 golfers at the UMB Bank/Tiger Intercollegiate (par-72, 7,221 yards) with a six-over par 222. He opened the tournament with an even-par 72, followed by a one-over 73 in the second round. Schenz-Davis concluded the tournament with a 77 and missed the top 10 by just three strokes. His play helped Liberty finish ninth in the 14-team field.
The weekly award is Schenz-Davis' first since capturing the honor on Sept. 21, 2007, following a third-place finish at the Troy Invitational. By winning the final player of the week award for the 2008-09 season, Liberty has captured four weekly honors out of 10 weeks the Flames have been eligible to garner honors. The last Flame to win the weekly award, Robert Karlsson on March 13, actually encompassed two tournaments in his win. Tobias Pettesson (Oct. 10) and Preston Dembowiak (Sept. 18) also took home the weekly honor this season. No team in the Big South had four different players take home the weekly award. Gardner-Webb (Immu Korvenma & Kristopher Gray) and Winthrop (Kelly Manders & Brent Martin) are the only schools to have at least two different players grab weekly honors.
Schenz-Davis and the Flames return to action on Monday at the Big South Championship, contested over three days in Ninety-Six, S.C., at The Patriot Club.
