No. 2 Liberty Advances to Big South Semis
With the win, Liberty extends its winning streak to 11 games. The Lady Flames, who have already posted the most wins in a season in school history, move to 15-6 overall. Head Coach Chris Johnson's team advances to play No. 3 seed Charleston Southern, a victor today over No. 6 seed Radford, at Noon, tomorrow. It is the second consecutive year the Lady Flames have advanced to the semifinals of the Big South Championship.
Liberty started strongly, quickly winning the doubles point by taking the first two doubles contests. Jordan Jenkins and Hannah Fick upped their doubles record to 11-1 on the year, with an 8-2 No. 1 doubles victory over Gardner-Webb's Laura Kriett and Rita Gouveia. Lady Flames Stephanie Brown and Nadia Solomon-Burgess followed with a triumph in No. 2 doubles, 8-1, over Amy Beavers and Kasey Ellis to capture the doubles point for Liberty.
In singles, Liberty secured the win with victories in the first three matches completed. The Lady Flames captured the No. 3, 4 and 5 contest for the 4-0 match victory.
Solomon-Burgess got the sweep underway with a straight-set, 6-2, 6-2 triumph in No. 3 singles against Gardner-Webb's Jenny Gomez. Fick extended her singles winning streak to 14 matches, by defeating Beavers, 6-2, 6-0. Lais Souza closed out the victory for the Lady Flames with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Ellis in No. 5 singles.
The Bulldogs end their season, 10-14.
