Louis Steyn was named to the Big South all-academic team

Liberty Flame Louis Steyn was named to the Big South Men's Tennis all-academic team, it was announced Wednesday evening at the conference's tennis banquet held at McBryde Hall on the campus of Winthrop University.

Steyn was named to the team for both his efforts on and off the court. The Bloemfontein, South Africa native, posted a team-high 12 singles wins this spring for the Flames. In his first full season with Liberty, the junior recorded a 12-7 mark. In addition, he paired with Juan Reyes for a 13-4 mark in doubles.

The Liberty Flames, the 2009 Big South Men's Tennis Championship's No. 5 seed, will face the No. 4 seed Gardner-Webb Bulldogs, Thursday when the tournament opens at the Memorial Courts in Rock Hill, S.C. Match time is scheduled for 10 a.m.
