Flames Drop Match to Chanticleers

The Coastal Carolina Chanticleers downed the Liberty Flames, 6-1, Saturday in a Big South men's tennis match at the Sports Racket.

Liberty falls to 1-4 in the Big South and 11-9 overall. Coastal Carolina finishes its regular season at 4-2 in conference play and 15-5 overall.

Coastal Carolina claimed the doubles point, winning all three doubles contests. German Perez and Ernesto Ramos earned an 8-4 win over Clay Cypert and Giancarlo Lemmi in the No. 1 contest. Dmitry Vlaskin and Plamen Tzvetkov took an 8-5 win over Chad Simpson and Gregorio Machado at No. 2, while Joseph Withers and John Hairston picked up an 8-5 win on court three over Otavio Costa and Juan Reyes.

In singles, Coastal Carolina won five out of the six contests for the match victory. The Chanticleers opened singles play with wins in the No. 1 and No. 2 matches. Ramos defeated Cypert at No.1, 6-4, 6-4, while Perez won a 6-4, 6-2 triumph over Simpson at No. 2.

Coastal Carolina's last three victories came at the bottom half of the lineup. Tzvetkov took a 6-3, 6-2 win over Machado at No. 4. Dorian Sovic defeated Costa, 6-3, 6-3 in the No. 5 contest, while Withers claimed a 6-2, 6-3 win over Reyes at No. 6.

Liberty's Lemmi captured the No. 3 contest with a 6-4, 6-7 (4), 1-0 (6) victory over Vlaskin.

The Flames close out their regular season, Monday. Liberty will host Presbyterian at the E.C. Glass High School Tennis Courts. The doubles point gets underway around 10:30 a.m.
