Liberty Rolls to Sixth-Straight Win
With its fifth 7-0 win this season, Liberty reaches double-digits in victories, upping their record to 10-6 overall. Longwood falls to 2-7. Last season, the Lady Flames posted a 13-4 record.
Liberty got off to a fast start on the afternoon, taking the doubles in commanding fashion. Lady Flames Hannah Fick and Jordan Jenkins ran their record to 7-0 at No. 1 doubles with an 8-5 victory over Zsofia Jakab and Laura Simon.
Stephanie Brown and Nadia Solomon-Burgess put the match point in the Liberty column with an identical 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles over Mason Davis and Ashley Melson. Valeriya Klintsevich and Lais Souza completed the doubles sweep, with an 8-2 win over Jackie Esguera and Nasim Moadab in the No. 3 doubles spot.
The Lady Flames carried their strong play into the singles portion of the match. Jenkins won her sixth-straight No. 1 singles match, besting Simon, 6-0, 6-1, to get Liberty started. Burgess-Solomon followed in the No. 2 spot, with the second Lady Flame straight set victory, 6-1, 6-3, over Jakab. Brown completed the straight set Liberty wins in the top three spots of the line-up without losing a game, downing Esguera, 6-0, 6-0.
Souza went to a tiebreaker in her No. 4 singles match, before claiming a Lady Flame victory. The freshman dropped the first set, 6-4, only to fight back for an 8-3 win in the second set to force a tie breaker, which Souza took 10-8. Fick ran her personal singles winning streak on the season to nine, dropping Moadab, 6-1, 6-1, at No. 5. Klintsevich closed out the singles and match sweep, with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles over Eileen Sullivan.
Liberty will host Charleston Southern, Friday at the E.C. High School Tennis Courts. Match time is scheduled for 10 a.m.
