Liberty Falls to UNC Asheville in Three

Elif Unlu had 15 kills, while Talia Ogle added 10 kills to lead UNC Asheville to a 3-0 (30-27, 30-25, 30-24) Big South Conference volleyball match win over visiting Liberty University Sunday afternoon at Justice Center.

UNC Asheville improved its record to 21-6 overall and 9-4 in the Big South Conference. The Lady Flames fell to 8-20 overall and 4-9 in the league.

Liberty was led by Jessica Nelson with a game-high 16 kills and 11 digs. Megan Murphy sparked the Asheville defense with 11 digs.

In the first game, the Bulldogs went on an 8-2 run to grab a 26-21 lead as Unlu had10 kills in the first game. Liberty roared back and crept to within 28-27 but Unlu finished the game off with two kills to give the Bulldogs the win.

In the second game, Asheville built an early lead and managed to maintain a two-to-three point lead for most of the game. UNCA led 22-20 before going on a 5-0 run ,led by two kills from Ogle and a service ace from Megan Murphy. Liberty made a run to close to 27-25 before the Bulldogs finished the game off with three straight points.

UNCA picked up four service aces in the third game and took advantage of 10 Liberty hitting errors to win the game and the match, 30-24.

After a six-match road swing, the Lady Flames return home to the Vines Center to host the Spartans of UNC Greensboro on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
