LU Places Third at Rice Intercollegiate
Ji Hwan Park (70-68-72—210) of San Francisco edged out Christopher Brown (69-73-71—213) of Rice by three strokes for medalist honors. Ben Moser (69-78-79—216) of Houston led the field when play started, fell to a three-way tie for third with Patrick Kucich (73-73-70—216) of Pacific and Liberty newcomer Robert Karlsson (74-67-75—216).
After Karlsson, Liberty was led by Jay Calvo (73-72-74—219), who finished tied for ninth place, three strokes over par. Preston Dembowiak (73-76-73—222) finished six over par, while Sang Chun (77-74-77—228) finished 12 over par. Tobias Pettersson (81-76-74—231) rounded out the Liberty five, 15 over par.
Pacific (874) entered the day tied for second with Liberty, but was able to shake the Flames and day one leader Houston (883) to grab the tournament championship. Tournament host Rice (878) jumped into second place, followed by the Flames in third and Houston in fourth place.
Liberty hits the links again on March 2, when the Flames travel to Pensacola, Fla., to take part in West Florida's Argonaut Invitational. The event will be played at the Pensacola Country Club.
