The Liberty Flames (586) sit in a tie for second out of 15 squads with Pacific (586), 11 strokes behind Houston, after two rounds on day one of the 2009 Rice Intercollegiate, at the par-72 7,184-yard Westwood Golf Club in Houston, Texas.

Ben Moser (69-68—137) of Houston leads all golfers, but the competition is tight with Ji Hwan Park (70-68—138) of San Francisco nipping at his heals, one stroke back. Liberty newcomer Robert Karlsson (74-67—141) is in third place, four strokes off the leader.

After Karlsson, Liberty is led by Jay Calvo (73-72—145), who is tied for eighth place, one stroke over par. Preston Dembowiak (73-76—149) is seven over par, while Sang Chun (77-74—151) is nine over par. Tobias Pettersson (81-76—157) rounds out the Liberty five, 15 over par.

San Francisco (589) is in fourth place, three strokes behind the Flames, while North Carolina State (590) and host Rice (590) are tied for fifth, four strokes behind Liberty and 15 off leader Houston.

The 2009 Rice Intercollegiate will conclude with a final round on Tuesday, at the Westwood Golf Club. Tee times start at 8:30 a.m. local Houston time and the Flames are in the first tee group.
