Lady Flames Fall to Hokies

The Liberty Flames women's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision to No. 41 Virginia Tech, Saturday at the Burrows-Burleson Tennis Center.

Liberty, 2-4 on the year, fell behind 1-0 in the match, after falling in two of the three doubles matches to Virginia Tech, ranked No. 41 the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association poll. The Lady Flames' paring of Jordan Jenkins and Valeriya Klintsevich edged the Hokie combination of Katie Blow and Courtney Rauscher, 8-7, in the No. 3 doubles contest for the Liberty doubles win.

In singles, Virginia Tech won all six of the matches to capture the match victory. In No. 1 singles, Liberty's Jenkins extended No. 125 Inga Beerman to a tiebreaker, before being edged in a closely contested match. Jenkins claimed the first set, 6-4, before falling in a tiebreaker in the second set, 7-6 (5). Beerman then won the tiebreaker, 1-0 (8), for the win.

The Liberty women's tennis team returns to action Friday afternoon, with a match at Appalachian State. Match time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
