The Liberty men's tennis team has been predicted to finish fifth in the Big South Conference standings this spring in the league's annual preseason poll, released earlier this afternoon. The poll is voted on by the conference's head men's tennis coaches.

The Flames received 24 points in being picked fifth. Liberty returns several players from last year's team, including juniors Chad Simpson and Juan Reyes. Simpson teamed with Reyes to record an 8-6 mark in doubles last spring, while in singles, Simpson had a 6-12 mark and Reyes posted an 11-6 record.

Defending Big South champion Radford was chosen first in the Big South Conference's annual preseason poll. The Highlanders received six first-place votes and 48 points. Winthrop was chosen to finish second, garnering a first-place vote and 41 points.

The Flames kick off their 2009 schedule at Old Dominion, Saturday. Match time is slated for 3 p.m. The season is scheduled to conclude at the Big South Conference Men's Tennis Championship, April 16-18 on the campus of Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C.
