After recording the best performance of her young career on Saturday, Liberty forward Kylee Beecher has been named the New Balance Big South Conference Women's Basketball Freshman of the Week.

Beecher (Roanoke, Va.) led the Lady Flames to a 92-68 home victory over Saint Paul's in just her second appearance in head coach Carey Green's starting lineup, notching a career-high 18 points. Six of her points came during a pivotal 22-1 run early in the second half, breaking open a close game. The freshman also grabbed six rebounds and dished out a career-best five assists during her 29 minutes of work against the Lady Tigers.

Beecher, who made six of her 10 field goal attempts and drained all six of her free throws on Saturday, became Liberty's first Big South Women's Basketball Freshman of the Week since Feb. 20, 2006. That day, current Lady Flame senior Moriah Frazee (F, Xenia, Ohio) was recognized.

For the season, Beecher is averaging 4.5 ppg and 5.0 rpg. She ranks fourth among Big South freshmen in rebounds and has led the Lady Flames in boards during two of the last four games.

The Lady Flames will be back in action Saturday afternoon, when Liberty travels to Winston-Salem State, for its first-ever meeting with the Rams. Tip-off at the C.E. Gaines Center is scheduled for 2 p.m.
