In preparation for his highly-anticipated showdown with Oregon senior Galen Rupp at Monday's NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships, Liberty sophomore Sam Chelanga is the subject of an article in the Thursday USA Today. The article, penned by Dick Patrick, appears on page 6 of the Sports section and is titled, "Another Liberty runner represents hurdle to Rupp."

Chelanga (Nairobi, Kenya) has grabbed the attention of the distance running world with his undefeated season, earning coverage from publications like Sports Illustrated, Runner's World and Track & Field News. Today's article focuses on Chelanga's upcoming battle with Rupp, the same athlete former Liberty standout Josh McDougal edged out to win the 2007 NCAA Division I National Cross Country Championship.

McDougal provided several quotes for Patrick's article, including "[Sam] really helped prepare me to win nationals," "I know Sam better than anyone. I know Galen as good as anyone … I think it's going to be an amazing race," and "[Sam's] the most naturally talented runner I've ever seen."

The 2008 NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships will be contested Monday, at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Ind. The men's 10K championship race will begin at 12:48 p.m. and will be televised live on CBS College Sports.
