Life with the Lady Flames: Alex's Angle
My name is Alex Bream and this is my senior year at Liberty University and fourth year being a part of the women's basketball program. My hometown is Elizabethtown, Pennsylvania, which is right next to Hershey, where the world's best chocolate is made! Virginia reminds me a lot of Pa., minus the cold weather up north, and I think that's why I love Virginia so much.
My role on the team, as of two weeks ago, has changed in the same way as it has for my teammate Molly Frazee. I have to undergo knee surgery in a few weeks due to an ACL tear, and I am not looking forward to that. Quite a few of my teammates have gone through the same surgery, so it is encouraging to know what lies ahead, and that recovery is in the future. I will be out for the season, but I'll be encouraging and supporting the girls in every possible way!
We had our first game on Friday night in the Vines Center against VCU (Virginia Commonwealth University). Unfortunately, we lost by two points, but a lot of good things came out of the loss. We now see what it is going to take to continue building our team. Our team has a lot of potential, and God will use us in whatever way He has planned. We watched film from the game on Friday, and know the areas we need to work on, and the areas we are strong in. It is important for us to continue to build on them!
A lot of fans came out to support us on Friday, and I know we all really appreciated it and loved seeing everyone come! We play this Friday at Western Carolina versus UC Riverside at 5 p.m., so be sure to stay updated!
