Joshua Boateng was named the Big South Conference Player of the Week.

Liberty senior Joshua Boateng has been selected as the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Soccer Player of the Week for games played Oct. 20-26, after leading the Flames to a conference victory over Gardner-Webb and tie at Longwood last week.

Boateng, a native of Accra, Ghana, netted three goals in the two games. The forward started his week with his second multi-goal game of the year, as he netted two goals in the Flames' 3-0 win over Big South Conference leader Gardner-Webb. His first goal against the Bulldogs came in the third minute, as he placed the ball over the keeper's head to give the Flames an early 1-0 lead. He found the back of the net again in the 56th minute, as he took a pass from freshman midfielder Karol Chorak (Saint Louis, Mo.) and beat the Bulldog goalkeeper, one-on-one, with a shot into the right corner of the goal. Three days later against Longwood, Boateng put in the game-tying goal off a cross in the 18-yard box in the 76th minute to give the Flames the 1-1 tie.

The honor marks his first Player of the Week nod this season and the second of his career. Last season, Boateng earned conference player of the week honors for the week of Sept. 11-18.

The senior has scored 12 goals in 14 games this season, ranking him eighth in the nation in goals per game with a 0.86 average. He leads the Big South Conference in both goals per game and total goals. In addition, the forward's goal total is currently tied for eighth on the Liberty single-season list.

In addition, Boateng is 10th in the country in points per game and leads the Big South Conference with a 1.93 points per game average. A member of the Hermann Trophy Award Watch List, he has compiled 27 points this season, which one point shy of the Big South lead.

Boateng and the Flames, 8-5-1 overall and 3-3 in conference, square off with Big South rival VMI in their next game, next Tuesday at Patchin Field in Lexington, Va. Match time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
