Liberty Men's Hoopsters release their TV schedule for 2008-09.

Liberty Men's Hoopsters release their TV schedule for 2008-09.

The Liberty men's basketball program will have at least 16 of its games televised during the 2008-09 season, with the potential for more. Additionally, 24 of Liberty's 31 scheduled contests this season will be aired either on television, web streaming or both.

Liberty will televise all 15 scheduled home games via the Flames Television Network (FTN) and the Liberty Channel. Of those 15 games, six will be simulcast on the Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN), while a seventh home contest will be a Big South Conference and MASN production. In what is the second year of the partnership between Liberty Athletics and MASN, six conference home games and one non-conference home game will air on the station. One additional road contest will also be broadcast on the network for a total of eight MASN broadcasts of the Liberty men's hoopsters.

MASN is a regional sports network with over six million subscribers, which televises both Washington Nationals and Baltimore Orioles games in the Mid-Atlantic region (Harrisburg, Pa. to Charlotte, N.C.). MASN is the official cable network of the Baltimore Ravens, Georgetown Hoyas basketball, George Mason Patriots basketball and televises 200 NCAA football, basketball and lacrosse games for a total of 520 live events annually.

Liberty will also be in the national television spotlight when they help ESPN celebrate the start of the 2008-09 college basketball season. The all sports network will open the year with the new College Hoops Tip-Off Marathon, featuring 23 consecutive hours of live college basketball game and studio programming, Nov. 18. Liberty's Big South Conference opener at UNC Asheville on Nov. 18 was selected as one of 14 game telecasts and will fill the 2 p.m. EST time slot. The contest will be broadcast on ESPN with a simulcast on ESPN360.com. Additional TV games will come in the Advance Auto Parts Big South Championship. Should Liberty host a first-round game, the contest will be televised on the Flames Television Network. The semifinal round will be broadcast on ESPNU, while the conference championship game will be televised on ESPN2.

One final possibility for the Flames to appear on national television will come in the ESPNU BracketBuster event. Television assignments and game matchups will be announced by ESPN on Feb. 2.

Nine more contests will exclusively be video streamed via The Big South EDGE, a subscription-based service provided by the Big South Conference, where fans can watch live video streaming. Twenty-three of Liberty's 31 games will be available on The Big South EDGE, including every home contest as well as every conference road game.

If you subscribe to Dish Network or Directv and live anywhere outside MASN's regional umbrella, check with your provider on their various college basketball packages that can include MASN. To register for a season pass for the Big South EDGE, make sure you visit BigSouthSports.com and signup.

Liberty has also increased its presence in the local market by entering into an agreement with Lynchburg's WSET-ABC 13 to carry all of the University's live sports programming on its new Digital 2 station RTN 13.2. All games broadcast by FTN will also appear on RTN 13.2.

Liberty appeared in 17 televised games during the 2007-08 season, finishing with a record of 12-5 during those games.
