Liberty senior Jordan McDougal, who recorded his first collegiate cross country victory at Saturday's Liberty Big South Preview, has earned the Big South Conference Choice Hotels Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week award for the first time.

McDougal (Peru, N.Y.) made a successful 2008 season debut, winning the men's 8K race in a photo finish with teammate Josh Edmonds (Jr., Cooperstown, N.Y.). His time of 26:16.2 established a new course record for Liberty's new cross country course. McDougal also helped the Liberty men's team record its second victory in as many meets to start the 2008 campaign.

McDougal is the second Liberty runner to be named Big South Men's Cross Country Runner of the Week this season. Sam Chelanga (R-So., Nairobi, Kenya) earned the award on Sept. 10.

The Liberty men's team, ranked fourth in the Southeast Region, will take this weekend off competition. Next up on the Flames' docket is an Oct. 3 trip to Bethlehem, Pa., for the Brooks Paul Short Run.
