Jelen And McDougal Finish First And Second To Highlight First Day At 49er Classic

Jarvis Jelen and Josh McDougal claimed the top two spots in the 5000 meters to highlight Liberty's first day of competition at the 49er Classic on Friday at the Irvin Belk Track Complex.

Jelen won the event with a time of 14:49.09, while McDougal, who was fresh off his All-American run in the same event at the NCAA Indoor National Championships, finished second with a time of 14:50.02.

Brandon Hoskins finished second in the javelin with a distance of 56.01 meters (183' 9"), while Arlene Zelinskas (1:02.83) and Ravanno Ferguson (10.47) finished third in their preliminary heats in the 400 meters hurdles and 100 meters, respectively, to qualify for the finals on Saturday.

A full slate of events is scheduled for Saturday as the two-day 49er Classic concludes with 27 events.
