The No. 7 ranked Virginia Cavaliers broke open a 1-0 game in the second half, en route to a 5-0 victory over the Liberty Lady Flames, Friday night, in a non-conference women's soccer match at Klochner Stadium.

With the setback, Liberty falls to 0-2 on the season, while Virginia moves to 2-0.

The Cavaliers took an early lead in the sixth minute of play. Caitlin Miskel dribbled into the penalty area from the flank and placed a shot just inside the far post for her first goal of the season.

Virginia would go on to outshot Liberty, 18-1 in the first half, but Lady Flame goalkeeper Karen Blocker (Fr., Bowie, Md.) was up to the challenge, stopping six shots.

Early in the second half, Blocker denied the two shots and another hit the crossbar, as the Lady Flames kept the score, 1-0, as the final period began.

Finally, Virginia broke through for its first goal of the second half in the 62nd minute for a 2-0 advantage. Lauren Alwine sent a cross into the box which Lenczyk headed in for her first goal of the year.

Less than a minute later, Colleen Flanagan lofted a ball over the top of the defense which found Lenczyk. She scored on the breakaway, quickly extending the Cavaliers edge to 3-0.

In the 77th minute, Lenczyk struck for the third time on the evening, as Katie Carr's header off a corner kick was saved off the goal line by a Liberty defender, but the ball landed right at the feet of Lenczyk, who tapped in the rebound.

Virginia added a goal in late in the game for the final score of 5-0.

In the contest, Cavaliers outshot the Flames 38-1 and had an 11-1 corner kick advantage. Celeste Miles notched her second shutout of the season, while Blocker had 10 saves in goal for Liberty.

The Lady Flames continue on the road to open the 2008 campaign, by visiting Old Dominion next Friday. Match time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
