Liberty outfielder Jeff Jefferson was recently selected to the 2008 Valley Baseball League (VBL) All-Star team and was named as one of two VBL Week Four Players of the Week .

Jefferson participated in the 2008 VBL All-Star game as a member of the North squad this past Sunday. The rising sophomore outfielder/catcher earned selection after hitting .350 with 18 RBIs, 25 runs scored and six home runs for the Luray Wranglers, who lead the North Division with the loop's best record of 20-8. Jefferson leads the VBL in runs scored and is second in the league in round trippers. He also ranks first in the league in total bases with 61 and is second with 36 hits. His .350 batting average leads the Wranglers.

Jefferson's North team tied the South team, 5-5, in the contest held in Covington, Va. VBL rules do not allow for extra innings in all-star games. Jefferson started in right field and played all nine frames with a fourth-inning double. Before the game, the Dry Fork, Va., native won the home run derby contest.

Also last week, Jefferson was tabbed one of two VBL Week Four Players of the Week (7/1). During week four play, he posted a .360 batting average, while scoring eight runs. The outfielder had nine hits, one double, two home runs, seven RBIs and 16 total bases in 25 at bats. For the week, Jefferson was first among VBL players runs scored, tied for third in RBIs, tied for first in home runs, and third in total bases in pacing the North Division-leading Luray Wranglers.
