Former Flames Aid in Trinidad and Tobago Win
Ten minutes into the match, Roberts snuck a shot from 10 feet out past Bermuda goalie Tim Figuerido, staking the Warriors to a 1-0 edge. In the 65th minute, Robert's teammate Stern John gave Trinidad and Tobago all the cushion it would need with the game's second goal.
The victory by the Warriors avenged an earlier loss to Bermuda, 2-1, on June 15. Telesford was on the field all 90 minutes during both qualifying matches.
With the victory, the pair of Liberty standouts along with their fellow countrymen now advance to Round Three of qualifying for the CONCACAF Final Round. Trinidad and Tobago will meet the United States, Guatemala and Cuba in three round-robin matches during the months of August through November.
Trinidad and Tobago will open round-robin play against Team USA on Sept. 10, at Toyota Park in Bridgeview, Ill. The 8 p.m., match will be televised on ESPN2.
The top two programs from each CONCACAF round-robin group will advance to the six-team CONCACAF Final Round scheduled to begin in February of 2009. The top three teams from the CONCACAF Final Round will automatically qualify for the 2010 FIFA World Cup.
"Darryl and Osei are now making a name for themselves on a national level," remarked Liberty Head Men's Soccer Coach Jeff Alder. "For them to make an impact for their country in World Cup qualifying does not surprise me.
"Both of these guys have great character and their competitive greatness is off the charts. Winning on the road in World Cup qualifying in a hostile environment is quite remarkable. I look forward to seeing these guys play against Team USA in the next round of qualifying."
Telesford was a four-time All-Big South Conference team member during his time with the Flames. Roberts earned Freshman All-American honors in 2003 and finished his career as Liberty's all-time scoring leader with 94 points on 36 goals and 22 assists during his time in a Flames uniform.
