Liberty Men's Soccer Announces 2008 Schedule
The 2007 NCAA Tournament participant opens the 2008 campaign with two home contests at Liberty Soccer Field. On Aug. 29, Liberty will begin its slate under the lights against Bluefield at 7 p.m., followed by a visit by the Atlantic Sun Champion and NCAA Tournament participant Campbell Fighting Camels on Sept. 2.
After opening the year at home, Liberty will travel to Marshall on Sept. 6 and then begin defense of its Big South Championship at Radford, six days later. The Sept. 12 contest will be a rematch of the 2007 Big South Championship title game, which the Flames won, 2-1.
Liberty returns home for an evening contest with North Carolina on Sept. 16. Two years ago in the first-ever meeting between the two teams, the Tar Heels edged the Flames, 1-0, at Liberty Soccer Field.
The first month of the season will continue with visits to Howard (Sept. 19) and Big South rival Winthrop on Sept. 26. The Flames close out September with a home conference contest with High Point on Sept. 30.
The October slate begins on Oct. 4 with a visit by Big South opponent Coastal Carolina. Liberty will then make its road trek to Virginia on Oct. 7. Always a national power, the Cavaliers last season reached the second round of the NCAA Men's Soccer College Cup.
Liberty will finish the season with six contests, three at home and three on the road. The Flames will host Southern Virginia (Oct. 14), new conference member Gardner-Webb (Oct. 21) and Big South opponent UNC Asheville (Nov. 8) in the final contest of the regular season. Alder's squad will visit future Big South member Presbyterian (Oct. 18), Longwood (Oct. 24) and Big South foe VMI (Nov. 4).
Liberty will defend its Big South Championship at the 2008 Big South Men's Soccer Championship, Nov. 13-16 at Coastal Carolina University Soccer Field in Conway, S.C.
