Eatmon Named Big South Player of the Week
Eatmon (Fr., OF/RHP, Emerald, Isle, N.C.) batted .500 on the week (8-for-16), helping Liberty post a 4-1 record. The quartet of victories included a sweep over future Big South foe Gardner-Webb and two wins to take a Big South series from Charleston Southern.
The freshman hit safely in all five games, her longest hitting streak of the year. She led the team with five runs scored, two doubles, two home runs and seven RBIs. She came into the week without an extra base hit, while only having three RBIs to her credit during her first 27 games of the year.
Eatmon was a combined 2-for-6 in the twinbill against Gardner-Webb, including her first collegiate home run in Liberty's opening 5-4 victory over the Bulldogs.
Against Charleston Southern, the outfielder was 6-for-10 during the series. In the second contest, Eatmon was 2-for-3 with two runs scored, two RBIs, a double and a homer to help Liberty to a 7-0 conference shutout over the Buccaneers.
The rookie capped off the stellar week with her best outing, going 3-for-4, with two more runs scored and a career-high three RBIs to help Liberty claim a 12-3 season-finale victory.
Eatmon is the second Lady Flames to capture a weekly conference honor this year. On April 7, senior Ashley Williams was named Big South Player of the Week, earning honors in the midst of her career-best 11-game hitting streak.
Eatmon and the Lady Flames will return to the softball diamond on Thursday, when they square off against No. 5 seed Birmingham-Southern in the opening game of the 2008 Big South Softball Championship. The three-day event is being hosted by Winthrop in Rock Hill, S.C., at Terry Field.
