Liberty assistant men's basketball coach Dale Layer has announced that he accepted an offer to join Buzz Williams' coaching staff at Marquette.

"I am very excited for Coach Layer," said Liberty head coach Ritchie McKay. "He made a great contribution to Liberty in his short time here. Marquette is getting a tremendous coach, but even a better person. I think Coach Williams will value how much experience he brings to the Golden Eagles' program. Dale is a close friend and I am sorry to see him go, but happy for him and his family in their new endeavor."

Layer spent one season with the Flames, after serving as the head coach at Colorado State for seven years. During his one season on Liberty Mountain, Layer helped McKay nail down a Top 50 recruiting class that will matriculate during the fall 2008semester.

"It was a very tough decision to leave Liberty," said Layer. "I thoroughly enjoyed the time I spent here and look forward to seeing the future successes at Liberty."

Layer continues a unique ride in the coaching world. After hiring McKay at Queens College in 1989, Layer later served as an assistant under him first at Colorado State and later Liberty. Layer hired Williams to his staff while the head coach at Colorado State and now will join his protégé at Marquette.
