Lady Flames Seeded No. 4 in Championship
The Lady Flames (17-38-1, 5-10 Big South) will begin the three-day event when they face No. 5 seed Birmingham-Southern (29-26, 5-10 Big South) on Thursday in Game 1. Opening pitch for the first contest of the tournament is slated for 10 a.m.
Winthrop, who shared the regular-season crown with Liberty last year, won the title outright this go around, finishing with a Big South-record 14-conference victories (33-17, 14-1 Big South). The host Eagles will begin defense of their 2007 conference crown against the victor of the Liberty-Birmingham-Southern contest on Thursday at 3 p.m.
Radford (45-13, 13-2 Big South) headlines the other side of the championship bracket, taking home the No. 2 seed. Following Liberty's game on Thursday, No. 3 seed Coastal Carolina (18-38, 6-9 Big South) and No. 6 Charleston Southern (18-39, 2-13 Big South) will square off in Game 2.
The three-day tournament will culminate on Saturday, when the Big South crowns its 2008 conference champion in the title game, which is slated for 3:30 p.m.
