Coming off a promising fall campaign, the Liberty men's tennis team began the 2008 spring season with a solid 4-3 home win over the Richmond Spiders on Feb. 2. After dropping several matches to competitive non-conference opponents, the Flames rebounded, winning seven of their last 10 matches to close the regular season.

During its spring break campaign in Port St. Lucie, Fla., Liberty picked up three straight wins, earning victories against Palm Beach Atlantic, Hastings and McMurray. The spring break victories sparked a strong second half. Liberty rounded out the month of March with a 7-0 sweep over fellow Hill City squad Lynchburg and a decisive 8-1 road victory over the Averett Cougars.

The Flames capped off the regular season with a pair of solid performances in conference play. Liberty picked up a 5-2 win over UNC Asheville and ended its regular season with a season-highlighting, 4-3 upset of Winthrop. The two victories gave the Flames the fifth seed in the Big South Men's Tennis Championship in Rock Hill, S.C. The night before the conference tournament, Liberty senior Jarda Trojan represented the Flames, earning a spot on 2008 Big South Conference All-Academic team.

Liberty concluded its season by falling in the first round of the Big South Tournament to Coastal Carolina. The Flames finished the 2008 campaign at 8-10 overall and 2-4 in conference action.

Sophomore Juan Reyes recorded an 11-6 mark in singles, finishing the season strong by winning eight of his last nine matches. Trojan, the team captain, completed his senior season with a 6-3 record in his last nine singles contests.
